Things to do and see this Summer in the Tuscia*

On the 4th of June Civita di Bagnoregio, holds place to "La Tonna", a sort of Palio with donkeys raced around the square of San Donato.

On the 4th of June in Montefiascone there is the Festa di S. Maria delle Grazie. A series of events will be held during the day including: mass with blessing for couples celebrating their golden or silver anniversaries, tastings of local produce, musical performances, sporting events and to end the day a spectacular fireworks show.

From the 7th to the 11th of June Celleno holds La Festa delle Ciliegie (Cherry feastival). Various exhibitions and events take place as well as many tastings of dishes made with cherries..!

18th of June most towns hold a Corpus Domini procession. These processions will typically go through the streets of the towns following a path of flowers amde into intricate designs. The most famous one is held in Bolsena, where the miracle of the Corpus Domini is supposed to have occurred in 1263. Other significant ones are held along the streets in the historic centres of Montefiascone and Tuscania.
Vetralla holds a programme called "Fiori alla finestra e cene in cantina" (Flowers from the windows and suppers in the cellar) from the 23rd to the 25th of June, where the whole town is adorned with flower displays that are then entered into a competition and prizes are awarded for the best displays. The cellars of the town are also opened, where you can enjoy tastings of local wine and produce. In the streets of the historic centre other events are also held including artist’s and artisan’s exhibitions.

From the 24th to the 25th the towns of Caprarola and Castel Sant’Elia each hold their own Palio. while in Vejano there is the Sagra del Tartufo Scorsone (the feast of the Truffle).

Every weekend from the 1st of July to the 31 of August, Bolsena has in programme a variety of concerts and plays that will be held along the shores of the lake or in the squares and historical buildings of the town.

From the 1st to the 9th of July Farnese will organise a beer festival with a number of local bands playing.
Between the 1st and 3rd of July Marta will hold the “Piccolo Borgo on Festa” with numerous events organised in the historic centre by artists and artisans. The streets are lit by candle light and you can enjoy a glass or two of the local Cannaiola wine with tozzetti biscuits.

For the more adventurous Villa San Giovanni In Tuscia holds the “Sagra della Trippa” (Tripe) on the 15th and 16th of July and the “Sagra della Pezzata” (Mutton) on the 29th and 30th of July.

Gradoli holds its “Aleatico in Festa” on the 29th and 30th of July. The Aleatico is a D.O.C. wine. It is a dessert wine that is traditionally accompanied by dry biscuits.

From the 29th of July to the 15th of August, Montefiascone holds the Festa del Vino. Montefiascone is famous for its dry white wine EST! EST!! EST!!! During the festival there are many events held to celebrate the legend of this wine that was first discovered by bishop Defuk while in pilgrimage to Rome in 1111. There are also many wine tastings organised by the A.I.S. (the Italian Sommelier’s Association).

From the 1st to the 10th of August, Latera stages a reenactment throughout the town of when in 1408 the Pope of the time handed this town over to Ranuccio Farnese. During this festival the town is totally transformed back to how it would have been during that period.

From the 9th to the 15th of August there is the Sagra delle pappardelle al Cinghiale (pasta made with a wild boar ragu) in Acquapendente.

From the 10th to the 15th of August there is the Sagra della Lumaca (snail) in Graffignano.

The 15th of August is Ferragosto and every town will hold numerous events to celebrate the pinnacle of the summer holidays. Most notable is the procession and firework display over lake Bolsena at Capodimonte.
